Buddha Dordenma

The huge statue of lord buddha Shakyamuni is one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world.
It is located at the top of hill of Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, overseeing the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. It measures at a height of 51.5 meters and is made up of bronze and gold-plated. The statue has three-storey base with a large chapel and the body has 1,25,000 smaller statues of buddha. The statue was manufactured and cut into pieces in China for easier import to Bhutan.

The environment in and around the statue looks awesome in morning and at night when it is irradiated. The throne of buddha Dordenma is on the large meditation hall. There was a prophecy discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) during 8th century A.D that a statue would be built in this place showering happiness all over the world.
The road towards the Buddha statue commonly known as ‘Buddha Point’ is a popular cycling route passing a new Hindu temple.
