Punakha

Punakha is a beautiful district located in the western part of Bhutan. It is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, historic landmarks, and cultural significance. The district is home to the Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most iconic and significant landmarks. The dzong is a majestic fortress that served as the seat of government until the capital was moved to Thimphu in the 1950s. Punakha is also famous for its rice fields, which produce the country’s most prized red rice.

Apart from the Punakha Dzong, other attractions in the district include the Chimi Lhakhang temple, the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, and the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery. Visitors can also explore the Punakha Suspension Bridge, which spans the Po Chhu river and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

In addition to its cultural and historical significance, Punakha is a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The district is home to several hiking trails, including the famous Druk Path trek, which offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Visitors can also go rafting, fishing, and camping in Punakha. Overall, Punakha is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Bhutan.
